GRANT APPLICATION AND GUIDELINES

Cherry Fund Grant Program
The Cherry Fund is an all volunteer non-profit that provides funding and resources to support the HIV/AIDS Service Community in a city with the highest rate of cases in the country.  Funds may also be used to support youth serving organizations.

Eligible Organizations
The Cherry Fund will only fund 501 (c) (3) organizations with an emphasis on HIV/AIDS and Youth.

Use of Grant Funds
Funds may be used for any purpose that contributes to the organizations's programming or furthers their missions, so long as the above conforms with The Cherry Fund's mission. Preference will be given to youth serving organizations who utilize funds for HIV/AIDS prevention.

Centaur Motorcycle Club (Centaur MC) consists of a group of men with an enthusiastic interest in motorcycles, leather and other men. The club sponsors Mid-Atlantic Leather Weekend (MAL); Mr. Mid-Atlantic Leather Contest (Mr. MAL); and the bi-annual woodsy recreational Labor Day Weekend event, Olympia. The Club takes both a serious and irreverent approach to designing events for the amusement and enjoyment of the greater Leather Community. The District of Columbia Comprehensive AIDS Resource and Education Consortium, Inc. (DC CARE Consortium, or DCCC) was created June 19, 1991 in response to Title II of the Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency Act. Since that time, DCCC has grown into a 501 (c)(3) service provider with a membership of sixty-five HIV/AIDS service providers and community-based organizations. With the support and leadership of DCCC, these agencies are able to give quality services to people living with HIV/AIDS.

The Metropolitan Washington, D.C. area has long enjoyed one of the strongest and largest leather communities in the nation. From the oldest leather clubs to the newest, the history of leather in the Mid-Atlantic Region is long and rich. Discussions about launching a leather "pride" event began in early summer of 2005. A call for interested parties was made and with an overwhelming response, the first meeting was held at The Center - Home for GLBT in Metro DC on June 30, 2005. Within just 4 meetings, a committee was formed, a full proposal on hosting a weekend of diverse leather events and activities was developed, and a name was chosen - DCLeatherFEST! After LeatherFEST in 2006, the event morphed into a dedicated fundraiser for Brother Help Thyself, and The Center. This new event is being called DC LeatherPRIDE.

The Gay & Lesbian Leadership Institute is recognized as the leading national political organization that recruits, trains and supports openly lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender candidates and officials. It is the only national organization committed to increasing the number of openly gay and lesbian public officials at federal, state and local levels of government. With over $12 million invested and thousands of wins secured, Victory today has hundreds of openly gay and lesbian officials on the frontlines in the battle against anti-gay public policies. Openly gay and lesbian legislators across the country, such as those in California, Massachusetts and Vermont, have educated and influenced peers, resulting in pro-gay policies and protections for the LGBT community. Victory is leveraging its success to tackle the anti-gay constitutional amendment, which will be fought in statehouses across the country. Their strongest advocates are openly gay and lesbian policy-makers, which are still lacking in 27 state legislatures.

Lambda Legal Defense Fund /

The Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund is a national organization committed to achieving full recognition of the civil rights of lesbians, gay men, and people with HIV/AIDS through impact litigation, education, and public policy work. Headquartered in New York, Lambda has regional offices in Atlanta, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Throughout its 28-year history, Lambda has been a leader on virtually every legal issue of concern to lesbians, gay men and people with HIV/AIDS throughout the nation and across borders of age and ethnicity. Lambda's cases have been argued from the grass roots level to the U.S. Supreme Court. Lambda's recent Supreme Court case, Boy Scouts of America v. James Dale, has magnetized the attention of civil rights attorneys, national media, as well as the general public. Lambda's immediate future includes a major new Strategic Plan for Fiscal Years 2000-2002, approved by the Board of Directors in October 1999, which calls for the expansion of Lambda's legal and public education programs. Lambda plans to augment its legal activities by opening a new regional office in Dallas at the end of 2002 and increasing its national staff of full-time attorneys from 15 to 20.
