Construction facts:
This is the largest public works project in the District and the largest excavation site in the Western Hemisphere.
Last year, workers installed 2.2 acres of pre-cast wall surface, 8+ acres of interior masonry walls and 3,000,000 lbs. of sheet metal. Over 70 miles of piping have been laid — enough to runaround the Washington Mall 15 times. The new Center will use as much steel as seven Eiffel Towers.
