Kirk Druey's first taste of the DJ booth was as an assistant to DJs at the fundraising AIDS Dance-a-thons held in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and New York. There he observed what it took to produce a dynamic evening of dance music for thousands of people. These experiences, coupled with a strong desire to perform, sparked his interest in creating a sound of his own. Kirk made his spinning debut at DC's own Cobalt and Cherry 7 in 2002. Since his debut, his music career has burgeoned with other DC performances such as Club 5 (Sunday Mass) and numerous around town benefits. Perform? Of course he does-his mix of spectacular vocal anthems with tribal beats generates a fevered pitch of energy. Kirk maintains the attitude: "It's not only what record you play, but how and when you play it; the overall 'theatricality' of a good DJ should keep the audience guessing and creates drama and excitement on the dance floor". In 2003, Kirk's style catapulted him to the national stage, with performances at the Meltdown (Austin) and Sandblast (Wilmington, NC) events in addition to a benefit for NY's God's Love We Deliver (Fire Island). Upcoming 2004 appearances include "Spinning For Life" to benefit DC Metro Teen AIDS and Club Velocity in Charlotte.
